'His & Hers' Reviews: Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott Shine in "comfort comedy"

On September 7, 2024, Hallmark Channel premiered 'His & Hers', which has received predominantly positive reviews from critics. In the film, "Lawyers Mark and Dana are the perfect married couple until they find themselves on opposite sides of a highly public divorce case involving a warring reality show couple." The ensemble cast includes Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott. But what did the critics say?

Liz Kocan of Decider writes, "His & Hers is, it turns out, the exact kind of comfort comedy many of us are looking for at the end of a long day when you want to turn your brain off. And I mean that in the very best way. While it seems at first like the two leads are going to be suffocatingly sweet and cutesy for the whole movie, it turns out they’re both actually really funny and are the perfect foils for the over-the-top reality couple they’re paired with. In one scene, Lacey Chabert even gets the chance to make a very funny prank phone call that gives shades of Gretchen Weiners in Mean Girls during the famous four-way phone call. Just when you think there’s going to be actual relationship drama between Mark and Dana when their secrets start spilling out, that friction doesn’t last long and the actors clearly seem to relish getting to play up the absurdity of their situation. The movie doesn’t only focus on the relationship between Mark and Dana though, there’s also a clever twist when we learn that Brett and Tabby made up their entire divorce to sell their latest reality show."

Erin E. Gross of fangirlish notes, "His & Hers was a mix of laughter and love. The movie struggles to find a departure from the Hallmark mold. Had it not been for its stars, I don’t think that I would have liked it as much as I did. However, because of the way that Elliott and Chabert can command a movie, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would."

Girls Gone Hallmark says, "We appreciated that the lead characters, Dana and Mark, were a married couple. This is a rare storyline in the Hallmark universe, where the focus is usually on new romantic relationships. It was refreshing to see a happily married couple navigating both personal and professional challenges while working on a high-profile divorce case." Continuing, "Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott, portraying Dana and Mark, brought a natural, comforting banter to their roles, avoiding the brother-sister vibe and establishing a genuine romantic connection. Their established work relationship from previous projects shone through, adding depth to their on-screen married life."
